Where can kids learn German in Belgrade?

If you're looking for German classes for kids in Belgrade, there is a surprisingly broad choice.

Preschoolers can start through games and stories, school-age children can follow structured language programmes, and teenagers can progress towards recognised German qualifications or future study in a German-speaking country.

For this guide, we selected schools that currently publish German programmes specifically for children or teenagers, rather than simply listing German among their adult courses.

1. Goethe-Institut Serbia — Stari Grad

Goethe-Institut offers one of the clearest age-by-age pathways for children learning German in Belgrade.

Children can currently start from age five. Ages 5–6 and 7–8 have the BOTO beginner programme, which uses stories, imaginary characters and creative activities. Children aged 9–12 can study at A1–A2 level, while courses for ages 13–18 cover levels from A1 to C1.

Age: 5–18
Address: Knez Mihailova 50
Best for: a structured long-term pathway and families interested in Goethe qualifications.

2. Berlitz Serbia

Berlitz is particularly practical for families who want a choice of locations.

Its German and English programmes for children and teenagers are designed for ages 4–18. Lessons use games and activities to encourage children to actively speak the target language from the beginning.

The children's programme follows the school year and consists of 60 lessons across 30 meetings. Current Belgrade locations include Vračar, New Belgrade, Banovo Brdo and Dedinje, with children's classes also offered in Belgrade Waterfront.

Age: 4–18
Locations: Vračar, New Belgrade, Banovo Brdo, Dedinje and Belgrade Waterfront
Best for: families who prioritise a convenient location and a communication-focused approach.

3. EQUILIBRIO Kids & Teens

EQUILIBRIO offers German programmes for both younger children and teenagers.

For younger learners, lessons use conversation, games, songs, acting and creative activities, while older groups gradually move towards more structured language work.

Current locations include Belville in New Belgrade, Gajeva 9 in Vračar, Mis Irbijeve 53 in Zvezdara and Požeška 150 in Banovo Brdo. The school also offers a language assessment before placing a child in a group.

Locations: New Belgrade, Vračar, Zvezdara and Banovo Brdo
Best for: families looking for several neighbourhood options and a child-focused language school.

4. Deutschpunkt — Vračar

Deutschpunkt is unusual because it specialises exclusively in German language and culture, rather than teaching a long list of different languages.

Its children's courses are divided into age bands: 4.5–6, 6–8, 8–10, 10–12, 11–13 and 12–14. Conversation forms a major part of the programme.

The school also advertises particularly small groups of three to five students.

Age: approximately 4.5–14
Address: Kursulina 4, Vračar
Best for: small classes and a school focused entirely on German.

5. Österreich Institut Belgrade — Vračar

The Austrian Institute is another specialist option for children and teens learning German.

Children learn through games, songs, stories and workshops while gradually developing listening, speaking, reading and writing. Separate courses are also offered for teenagers.

The institute is also a licensed ÖSD examination centre, making it particularly interesting for older students who may eventually need an internationally recognised German qualification.

Address: Dubljanska 8, 3rd floor
Best for: long-term German study and a future ÖSD pathway.

The current children's page does not clearly publish a minimum age, so check the appropriate group directly before enrolling.

6. Mayflower Educational Centre — Zvezdara

Mayflower offers German to preschool, primary-school and secondary-school students.

Its preschool programme uses games and creative, age-appropriate activities, while the school also highlights personalised teaching and preparation for international language examinations.

Address: Velikomoravska 4, Zvezdara
Best for: families in Zvezdara looking for a local education centre.

7. MLingua — city centre and Mirijevo

MLingua offers German courses for children aged 7–15, organised around the school-year calendar.

It has two teaching locations: Kosovska 19 in central Belgrade and Koste Nađa 34b in Mirijevo. German is also offered online, although parents should confirm whether an appropriate children's online group is currently available.

Age: 7–15
Locations: Stari Grad and Mirijevo
Best for: school-age children living in central or eastern Belgrade.

8. Kontext — central Belgrade

Kontext has a dedicated German programme for children aged 4–12, followed by courses for teenagers.

For younger learners, the teaching approach uses play, drama and role-based activities so that children actively use German rather than only memorising vocabulary. Children with previous knowledge are assessed before being assigned to a class.

Belgrade classes currently take place at Balkanska 4, with online teaching also available.

Age: 4–12 plus teen programmes
Address: Balkanska 4
Best for: children who respond well to role-play, interaction and active learning.

How to choose German classes for your child

For ages 4–6, the teaching style matters more than the amount of grammar covered. Look for stories, games, songs, speaking and a teacher who genuinely understands preschool children.

For primary-school children, ask whether the programme offers continuity between levels and develops all four core skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

For a teenager who may eventually study in Germany or Austria, it makes sense to consider the longer-term pathway to B1, B2 or C1 and preparation for an official certificate.

Location matters too. A good language class ten minutes from home is often easier to sustain for an entire school year than the theoretically perfect school on the other side of Belgrade.

There is no single best German school for every family. One child benefits from a three-person group, another needs a branch close to home, while an older student may care most about a clear route towards an international exam.
