Where can kids learn horse riding in Belgrade?

If your child loves horses, Belgrade offers much more than occasional pony rides.

Several horse riding schools for kids in Belgrade offer regular training where children learn balance, riding technique and safety, while often also learning how to approach, groom and care for a horse.

Age requirements vary. Traditional riding lessons often start at around six or seven years old, but a few clubs have dedicated programmes for children from the age of four.

1. Konjički klub Beograd — Belgrade Hippodrome

Founded in 1973, this is one of Belgrade's established riding clubs, offering both recreational and competitive riding programmes.

Beginner lessons are individual, with one rider working with a trainer. Children learn how to approach a horse, mount and dismount, use equipment correctly, develop a proper riding position and safely control the horse at walk and trot. Protective equipment is included.

The regular riding school accepts children from age seven. Younger children can take supervised horse walks.

Age: 7+ for riding school
Address: Paštrovićeva 2
Best for: structured beginner training with the option to progress into dressage or show jumping.

The club also states that its coaches and staff speak English, which can be particularly useful for international families.

2. Konjički klub Fortuna — Zvezdara

Fortuna is particularly interesting for families with younger children.

Its standard riding school starts at age seven, with 45-minute lessons including the horse, equipment and professional instructor supervision.

There is also a dedicated programme for children aged 4–7. Through play and supervised interaction, younger children learn about horses and get an age-appropriate introduction to riding with two instructors present.

The club says it has around 20 horses, ten of which work in the riding school and are specifically trained for beginners.

Age: dedicated programme 4–7; regular riding school 7+
Address: Ljubiše Miodragovića 73c
Best for: preschoolers who need a gradual introduction rather than a standard riding lesson.

3. Trinity — Belgrade Hippodrome

Trinity has clearly separated programmes for children, beginners and more advanced riders.

Beginner training starts at age six and is individual. During a 45-minute session, children learn equipment and safety, correct posture, balance and their first trot.

There is also a children's programme for ages 4–12, where the youngest riders can begin with pony walks, meeting horses and learning basic horse care.

For children who later want to take the sport more seriously, the club also offers dressage and show-jumping training.

Age: children's programme 4–12; beginner riding from 6
Address: Paštrovićeva 2
Best for: a gradual progression from a first horse experience to equestrian sport.

Prices are currently available on request.

4. Bela Griva — Belgrade Hippodrome

Bela Griva may appeal to parents looking for a combination of equestrian training and a strong educational approach.

The school is led by licensed trainer and physical-education professional Sanja Dabović, while trained educational staff are also involved in its programmes.

Activities include recreational and sports riding, show jumping, galloping disciplines, camps, a children's equestrian programme and extended outdoor activities.

Age: programmes are offered for different ages; ask the school which format is appropriate for your child
Address: Paštrovićeva 2
Best for: regular training, camps and children who may later want to pursue equestrian sport more seriously.

5. Liberty — Belgrade Hippodrome

Liberty offers horse riding for children and adults, from complete beginners to more experienced riders.

A nice part of the programme is that children can also spend time in the stable, helping to feed, groom and wash the horses rather than treating the lesson purely as time in the saddle.

More advanced activities include jumping, and rides around Košutnjak may also be organised depending on interest.

Address: Paštrovićeva 2
Best for: children who want plenty of contact with horses alongside riding lessons.

The club does not clearly publish a minimum age, so families with younger children should ask before booking.

6. City Equestrian — New Belgrade

For families in New Belgrade, City Equestrian is a particularly convenient option.

The club offers riding lessons for children, teenagers and adults, with both individual and group training available throughout the year.

Lessons also involve horse care. Riders take part in preparing the horse before entering the arena and caring for it afterwards. Beginners initially work on a lunge line so they can focus safely on balance and fundamental riding skills.

Address: Vojvođanska 100, Novi Beograd
Best for: New Belgrade families and children who would benefit from learning horse care as part of every lesson.

Ask the club directly about its current minimum age and prices.

What age can children start horse riding?

At ages 4–5, look for a programme specifically designed for preschoolers rather than a shortened version of an adult riding lesson. Fortuna and Trinity explicitly offer programmes from age four.

By ages 6–7, many more traditional riding-school options become available and children can start working more seriously on balance, riding position and control.

If your child's long-term goal is equestrian sport, ask whether the school provides a pathway into dressage, show jumping or competition training after the beginner stage.

Which school would suit your child?

For ages 4–6, Fortuna and Trinity are the clearest starting points because both explicitly offer age-specific programmes.

From around age seven, there are many more choices. Konjički klub Beograd offers a particularly structured individual beginner programme, while Bela Griva and Liberty are worth considering if your child may eventually want to progress further into the sport.

For families based in New Belgrade, City Equestrian may simply be the most practical option for weekly lessons.
